HazelBorder collie1 yearBlack and whiteYesMicrochippedNoBattersea Dogs and Cats home
Contact: Jo SkidmoreTelephone: 02076279210 or workingdogs@dogshome.org
Comments: Hazel is a Border collie female aged about a year old who arrived at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as a stray. We do not have any background history on her but she is a very fast learner and has lots of energy and at the moment nowhere to really burn it off. She is very playful and loves her toys. Hazel is looking for an active home with new owners who can provide her with all the mental and physical stimulation she needs. She will need basic training from scratch and her recall will need to be worked on further as she can be quite unsure when coming back to the handler. She will need positive associations in that department. Hazel is suitable to live with dogs but not suitable to live with children however older teenagers may be considered. Hazel is better suited to live in a semi rural to rural location. She is a cracking, fun dog in need of a better start in life. If you are interested in rehoming Hazel please contact Jo Skidmore on 0207 6279210 or alternatively email her at workingdogs@dogshome.org

STEAK 'look again' Doberman3 yearsblk & tanYesNoneNoTBA
Contact: Val PhillipsTelephone: 01883 624513 or valgrays@hotmail.co.uk
Comments: Steak is not currently in Valgrays, but is being fostered ... Valgrays are trying to assist in finding this dog a new start in life ..Please contact Valgrays if you can offer this dog a second chance .. Comments below are from current fosterer .. Steak is a 3 years old pedigree dobermann. He was nervous with new people when I met him, but this seems to have improved. He shows fear aggression with other dogs, and is not safe with cats. He is kept in a kitchen all day while his owners are out at work, so the main problems in his life at the moment are isolation and boredom. He does get separation anxiety, but this is not as bad as it was, and is not surprising given the lengths of time he is left on his own. He is improving on the lead, and now I can get him to walk on a reasonably slack lead for most of a walk - I am trying to rectify 3 years of pulling. Although he was initially nervous of my children (aged 10 and 12), he is ok with them now, and they throw his ball for him. His owners tell me that he has experience of other smaller children, but I would introduce him to new children (or new people) carefully, perhaps giving them treats to offer (he is very food-orientated). He loves chasing his ball, and will sit/stay, especially if there is a treat in the offing. He was just too much dog for his existing owners, who failed to socialise him properly or to appreciate what a dog like this needs in terms of leadership and handling. He has not been badly treated. His owners love him, but realise that his current isolation is unfair on him. He used to accompany one of them in his van all day, but after a change of job this is no longer possible, which is why he is now stuck in the kitchen all day. He is definitely not a dog for inexperienced handlers but to someone who understands dobermann psychology, he could be a loyal friend - he loves me to bits now he's used to me. He's certainly a beautiful dog - many people comment on this when I walk him (17/04/2008)

PEPPERWSD15 monthsB&WNoNoneYesPembrokeshire
Contact: Val PhillipsTelephone: 01883 624513 or valgrays@hotmail.co.uk
Comments: Pepper is up for rehoming merely due to having a 'bad recall' and the owner now having to take up full time work ... Pepper is currently still with the owner (Pembrokeshire), but will be coming into Valgrays on 11th May, 2008 ... Pepper has loads of good points ... She is extremely good natured - is house trained and very clean - very good with children and other dogs (acts submissive to other dogs) - has been flead and wormed - not yet vaccinated (owner to be asked to do this) ... Pepper is 15 months old (born January, 2007) and is spayed .. The lack of recall is causing severe problems due to the area she is in, without a recall she is herding local livestock (current owner assures us it is just herding and never nipping) ... BETTYWSD6 monthsB&WYesNoneYesValgrays (but fostered in East Grinstead)
Contact: Shirley Telephone: 01342 321005
Comments: Detail below from current owner & updated after collection by Shirley from Rugby 04/05/08 .. Betty is a pretty black & white smooth coated bitch .. She is vaccinated, wormed and already spayed .. She used to live with two children (3 and 6 year olds) .. Betty likes toys (brings a ball back to play with you), loves footballs and food and is basically obedient .. Sadly Betty is fearful of unknown people .. I know she has been to a few one to one training sessions and the trainer (this information comes direct from the trainer - not the owner) has said there were big improvements in just a few sessions, but the current owner cannot keep up with the work to keep Betty on track to a happier life .. After an initial meeting Betty quickly settled down at a very busy large dog show, she was lovely with all dogs that she met .. She barked at a few people to start with, but after lots of sausages began to enjoy the company of strangers .. Once she knows you she is an absolute cuddle bun, really enjoying a behind the ears scratch and rub .. Betty is looking for an understanding calm new home with the patience to help her in life .. We believe she would benefit from living with another calm dog, possibly not a hyper dog though .. She needs time and effort from a knowledgeable owner put into her .. We believe Betty will be a small girlie, and with the right home will make someone a lovely dog .. If you are at all interested in meeting Betty please phone Shirley direct on: 01342 321005 ... Please check the website for more details www.valgraysbcrescue.webs.com .. Added by Shirley for Valgrays Border Collie Rescue 01/05/08 ..

Contact: Val PhillipsTelephone: 01883 624513 or valgrays@hotmail.co.uk
Comments: Bet is looking for a new home due to the farmer having to retire due to ill health ... the daughter has been left with 5 collies to look after ... Bet is a very dearly loved dog but the family feel she is the most suitable out of the five to find a new active home ... she is lovely with humans and the other dogs ... she has been spayed & vaccinated ... she is a very obedient dog and would be suitable for agility/obedience as she is a very agile and loves her toys .. She is black and white with a mottled ear .. She comes from ISDS stock .. Bet will be with Valgrays after the 10th May ... www.valgraysbcrescue.webs.com ..
