CHARITY SPECIAL CLASS C

27 clubs/societies agreed
to hold a qualifying heat at their respective shows,(1 x shows cancelled)
resulting in 26 competitors qualifying for this years All-Winners Final.
5 competitors were unable to attend on the day due to various reasons,
so the remaining competitors battled it out.
The test set by this years
Judge Lou Jackson proved interesting for dog and handler as well as from
a spectators viewpoint as there was a good crowd around the ring throughout
the day.
The weather turned out perfect
for the event, to which we are grateful to Kathy Hood and Birmingham
& District GSD Association for allowing us to hold the final at
this very popular weekend show and for sponsoring the Judges Lunches &
Refreshments throughout the day.
This year the Charity
Special Class All-Winners Final fund utilised the last £250.00p
of Coventry DTC donation, my sincere thanks to all at the club, also Sutton
Coldfield D.T.C. sent a cheque for £125.00p, my grateful thanks
to your committee and members.

charity was SUPPORT DOGS and Dr Eddie Walsh and his support dog

sell merchandise.

WELL DONE OBEDIENCE FOLK ~ THIS NOW TAKES THE TOTAL
GIVEN TO CHARITIES TO £9244.00p
We are very grateful to
those clubs/societies that agreed to hold a Charity Special Class "C"
at their shows in 2011 or made a donation to the event fund. Without this
there would be no All-Winners Final. NO QUALIFYING
HEAT, NO FINAL, NO CONTRIBUTION TO CHARITY.
All participating clubs/societies/sponsors
have been sent a copy of the accounts and an application form for 2012.
It's becoming a BIG
ASK but should any new club/society like to hold a qualifying
heat at their 2012 show PLEASE CONTACT ME, if anyone feels they can offer
any form of sponsorship we would love to hear from you also.

JUDGES REPORT
CHARITY SPECIAL C FINAL. 2011.
B'ham and Dist GSD Association Ch. Show.
Sandwell Valley, West Bromwich.
17.09.2011.
Judge: Lou Jackson.
Steward: Paul Evans.
Scribe: Jacque Ashmore.
Table: Jane Masefield.
When I was asked 12 months ago by Mick
and Lyn Tozer to judge the Charity Special C Final, to say that I was
chuffed would be a massive understatement, what a great honour. Thank
you so much for the opportunity. I have always loved entering the Charity
C classes and have been lucky enough to compete in two finals, they are
great fun and raise a lot of money for charity. This year the chosen charity
was SUPPORT DOGS which trains dogs to help people with a range of different
disabilities, including seizure alert, children with autism and people
with limited movement etc. Dr.Eddie Walsh was presented with a cheque
for £1600 by Mick Tozer which brings the total raised since the
competition began to £ 9244.00p .This would not be possible without
a lot of hard work by Lyn and Mick , the clubs who put on the heats, the
competitors, the sponsers and B'ham and Dist. GSD for hosting the final.
Dr. Eddie Walsh came along with his lovely support dog "Jasper"
and two daughters and when he told us about the difference that his dog
has made to his life you could have heard a pin drop, in fact his dog
had saved his life several times and enabled him to carry on his work
as a doctor abroad and in this country.
Now to my test, all I can say is Bl
..y
Buckets!!!!
It is very difficult to think of new
ideas for the competition and my aim was not to upset anybody's dog or
to ridicule the handlers but to test the concentration and training of
both dog and handler while linking it in some small way to the charity.
The first exercise was a corner, back
marker send away with a step stool to the right and a box send away to
the left.. This was followed by a static call up then into heelwork which
included a stand position on a right turn with an A recall pick up. Very
slow pace with a down position and a pick up at fast pace, into very fast
pace. A walk back at normal pace and a sit position in the weave .(Quite
a few handlers had a problem with the double left about left turn!!) DC.
Followed on from heelwork with 3 positions given in a chair and 3 more
on return (these generally, were very well done).
Retrieve was a Support Dogs trolley
coin attached to a jeye cloth which the handler had to place on the stool.
This was done quite well by most dogs but their handlers let them down
when told to finish to their dogs! Next was the box sendaway and the handler
to praise in the down and play with their dogs back to the entrance (which
if done well could get a reduction of marks up to 2 points).
Last but not least, the b
.dy
buckets! 3 mop buckets in a line, the first one contained a blank cloth,
the second a tennis ball and the third the judges cloth. Now, we had tested
this with a B dog and an inexperienced C dog with no problems but oh dear
me, I was so upset that so many dogs had no idea at all what to do, some
got the idea after a lot of hand waving and a small number did quite a
good job. It was never my intention for it to be that difficult and I
sincerely hope that none of the dogs were upset by it.

The best teams on the day (and nobody knew the results until the presentation,
including myself) were:
1st Mrs.Jeny Miller and her X Bitch.
Foxfold Unexpected Edition O.W. CD.Ex. UD.Ex. 26.05.2008.
Losing 19. Jeny is great at these competitions, very calm and her lovely
Chello is very well trained and beautifull too! You nearly blew it on
retrieve, Jeny, losing 12 ½ on this exercise when you forgot to
finish to your dog!! However, Chello was so good in the other exercises
including the dreaded buckets that you pulled it off and collected the
big prize. Many congratulations, I hope you have stopped crying now and
that you have bought your lovely girl something nice with her winnings.
2nd Mrs.Julie Rowlands and her BC.D.
Cabals Black Prince 16.08.06.
Losing 221/4. A great team who nearly pulled it off but lost 8 points
on the scent. Well done, Julie and Ricky, a lovely round and I hope you
enjoy your prizes, you deserved them.
3rd Mrs.Jane Webb and herWS.D. WT.CH.Witch
Flynntastic Winin Venture. 9.07.00.
Losing 251/2. Robbie missed the sit position in the weave but the rest
of the test was good enough to enable them to take home the goodies. A
fantastic dog with no sign of his advancing years and an excellent handler
to steer him round. Congratulations, Jane.
4th Mrs Mavis Mills and her XD. Imperial
Pilot 25/10/03.
Losing 253/4. Poor Aunty Mave had no voice today, well she had a little
one that sounded more like a strangled cat! The fact that she came in
and gave it a go was true to the spirit of the competition, well done.
Pilot obviously didn't recognise the strangled cat that tried to drop
him on the back marker resulting in a loss of 121/12 points. A lovely
little dog and an equally lovely mom, congratulations and I hope you're
better soon.
Finally, I certainly couldn't have carried
out this appointment without the help of some very special people. My
steward,Paul, who called the round over and over again with me changing
it and agonising over this and that even after a 15 hour working day he
arrived at 8pm to give it a last run through, what a professional. It's
such a difficult job in this sort of class as the handlers can end up
all over the place! Jacque, (the daughter I never wanted), scribbler extraordinaire
who also turned up for the final run through with a painful ear abscess
and sporting a woolly hat! Janie M. who not only guarded the scores, printed
all the handler information and laminated the notices but also sourced
the ring furniture, provided the kyam and the list goes on, I shall never
be out of your debt, mate. Stephanie and Shirley who worked the round
many, many times and Gill who cared for my treasures all day. Thank you
all, very much. I am truly blessed to have such good friends.I would also
like to thank Kathy Hood and her committee for a lovely lunch and refreshments
throughout the day.
This is a great competition, lots of
fun while helping some very worthwhile charities, so please continue to
support it with your entries and long may it continue.
JUDGE
Lou Jackson.
